In France during the 18th century, elegance is part of etiquette. That’s why men and women compete in refinement and ornamentation of their outfits. If court costumes are still subject to rules and tradition, everyday clothes undergo multiple influences: simplicity, with shortened dresses inspired by the popular modes, relaxation and exoticism with English and Oriental models. Over the years, the female silhouette, shaped by underwear, is more flexible and the wardrobe is more diversified. The phenomenon of mode affects all layers of society, sometimes under the influence of personalities of the court, as the Marquise de Pompadour or the Queen Marie-Antoinette which tastes are referred.This exhibition can show up to forty costumes of Louis XV and Louis XVI style. This exhibition was presented at the castle of “Champs-sur-Marne” en 2016, and then at the Palace of Kuskovo in 2017, in Russia.
